President of Wrestling Federation of India
In 2016, some Indian wrestlers, including Olympic medalist Yogeshwar Dutt, accused Singh of favoritism in the selection process for the Indian wrestling team. They alleged that some wrestlers were unfairly excluded from the team in favor of others who were close to Singh.
In 2019, another controversy erupted when some wrestlers accused Singh of mishandling the selection process for the Indian wrestling team for the World Championships. They alleged that the selection was marred by favoritism and that some deserving wrestlers were ignored.

Connection to the Underworld
According to reports, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh was accused of aiding associates of Dawood Ibrahim who were allegedly involved in organizing the J.J Hospital Shootout in Bombay in 1993. As a result, he was charged under the Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act and spent several months in jail before being acquitted of the charges.

During an interview with The Lallantop web portal in 2022, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh admitted to killing the person who had allegedly murdered his close friend, Ravinder Singh.
Demolition of Babri Masjid
Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh was one of the 40 people who were arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with the Babri Masjid Demolition Case in 1992. He claimed that he was the first person from his area to be arrested by Mulayam Singh, who was the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh at that time, and also the first person to be arrested by the CBI after the demolition of the structure. However, in 2020, the Supreme Court of India acquitted him of any involvement in the case.
